Today we've officially said goodbye to long distance bus travel for the forseeable future, completing our final stint on the Magic Bus. Jim is over the moon!
We left Tekapo early this morning and had a relatively short journey to Christchurch, stopping only at Geraldine for breakfast. Jim was knackered so napped all afternoon whilst I went for a walk to get my bearings.
Christchurch is meant to be like England and there's a cathedral, road names like Worcester Street and Oxford Terrace, and you can even go for a punt on the River Avon. It all feels a little bit like a Cambridge theme park! But a nice one. I checked out Cathedral Square and the Arts Centre but was rationing the sightseeing until I go out with Jim tomorrow.
There's some really good public art here with crazy sculptures everywhere. But then there are in most of New Zealand. I think because it's a relatively new, developing country, and a liberal one at that, they just commission local artists to design cool features for their towns.
Jim and I blew the budget by accident on a meal out tonight but at the moment I don't care because I'm full of margaritas! Yippeee!
Lots of love xxx
