It's now first day of our holidays... if you can count the last few months of amazing experiences as work!! We had a beautiful farewell by Plaster House for our last day. When we arrived they had decorated the house with lace cloths & had all the kids off the beds & assembled outside. In busy wrap up, cleaning & packing mode. Reeeeeally missing a washing machine after 2 hours of handwashing sheets & towels this am. My last day of work tomorrow. Adam's was today. He coordinated a first aid course for maasai and then raced bk to do teacher training. It is nearly 11pm and he is madly working on the computer studying. Well, what a week! On one extreme, we've had the heartbreak of witnessing a little albino patient covered in brusies from a suspected beating, treating some of the most severe club foot deformities and burns contractures I've seen to date and trying to break the news to my patient's family that she wont walk again. Adam also saw children at a school being caned. On the other end of the scale, we've had our gardener's baby born... and named Zacharia after Zachary....

We spent this weekend exploring Arusha. We started at the colourful local markets packed full of second hand clothes and fruit and veg. We stood out a mile being the only white faces in the crowds. We then went to a really interesting sheltered workshop called Shanga. The people working there are deaf or blind and are trained in weaving cloth, glass blowing and jewellery making using recycled glass bottles and cans. Their stuff is beautiful. It was animal central on our safari weekend out to Tarangire National Park. We tried driving ourselves & had close encounters with zebra, giraffe, elephants, buffalo, wildebeast & lions! It was wonderful apart from getting attacked by stinging tsetse flies...ouch! Elephants everywhere, saw them run & trumpet, with babies, saw lions mating & after killing a wildebeast.
