Manzanillo- Tropical downpour this morning, clearing to a lovely, sunny 29 degree day
Just when we think that we have seen the things there are to see in a spot, we keep being amazed. Today an enormous sloth crawled ever so slowly down a towering tree outside our jungle house, head first. I didn't realise they got so big. It was strange to see it descending head first after watching koalas for so many years do it feet first. Found it quite nerve wracking to watch it come down from such a height but, of course it managed just fine. Sloths are really bizarre looking things. Their fur makes them look more like a muppet than a real animal! Not so long after this, an electric blue butterfly flapped (not fluttered) past. We'd seen both these creatures in the ecopark and rescue centre but its so much more exciting and special to see them in the wild. An agouti (which is like a cross between a large, long legged guinea pig and a tailless mouse) popped past at tea. The big highlight though were the fireflies that appeared in the garden whilst we were doing the dishes. They were everywhere- flashing like little fairylights. Just magical. We keep pinching ourselves that we are able to be doing this year away. Very privledged.

Kylie Brunner I finally got to sit down and read all of your updates today guys - have felt like I'm there with you - you capture your surroundings beautifully in words, Karen - maybe Lonely Planet might have a job for you. I'm very envious of your travels and experiences... but alas we are in the midst of spending all of our money on our own resort in the back yard. After not much happening over Christmas, the pool builders are back on track. We now have a deck, the tiler comes this week and my brother, Chris is erecting fencing for us. Hopefully be swimming in about 10 days - Olivia and Archie are itching to get in there and so are we. We've in the middle of some very hot weather at present, so have been using the public swimming pools quite a bit. We've had some great BBQs and looking at heading away this weekend in the caravan to the beach. Thanks so much for keeping us up to date on your travels - will tune in regularly xx Kylie, Chad, Archie & Olivia.
