Ullapool, UK to Isle of Skye, UK
Up early and packed wet, we set out from Ullapool in similar conditions as to when we arrived, unhappy. But, as we made our way south, the weather picked up, and so did our moods. The relatively short drive from Ullapool to the Isle of sky saw us to campsite #6 (Loch Greshornish Campsite) early afternoon, in reasonably pleasant conditions.
A spacious and rather vacant site allowed us to pitch our tent at the back of the site, far away from the caravan scene that we wanted no part of. The tent went up and was left to dry as we decided to drive a figure 8 circuit of the Isle. Looping through Portree (where I saw my second favourite car, a Zonda) we exposed ourselves to more spectacular scenery, breathtaking coastline, and some of the best fun driving you could possibly wish for. Nearing the tip of the Isle, we went to a pre-programmed destination in our TomTom (thanks Dom). It turned out to be a lookout on the shortcut road to Uig. From this vantage point, there was only one word that could sum up what we could see - beauteous (thanks for that one Liz).
Heading back to camp, we decided to spark up our portable BBQ and cook up some burgers and snags - great meals always come at a price. As soon as we set everything up, we looked up at the fence that we had camped by, and read the worst sign we could have at the time; 'strictly no portable BBQ's'. We soldiered on, learning that the reason they were not permitted is because they burn the grass on and around them. It seems that fire follows us everywhere we go. Nonetheless, we had a scrumptious dinner of burgers with fried eggs and sausages on bread.
