Today I got to do the flight over the Nazca lines. This is something I have been looking forward to for ever, however with some trepidation as I had heard it was quite rough on those prone to motion sickness and considering my history with small planes I was worried. However, I managed to survive the flight without need for the sick bag and enjoy it at the same time. The lines are amazing. They give you a map so you know what you will be seeing and the pilot talks to you over the intercom. Once one side of the plane sees the lines, he circles around and gives the other side a chance as well, so lots of banking and circles but well worth it. My favourite was the monkey and I bought some little monkey earrings for myself as a reward for doing it. There are many different explanations as to why the lines are there, but as with so much of the culture here, they have no idea, just theories.
This morning after leaving Pisco we drove to a town called Huacachina, which is an oasis town in the middle of the desert surrounding a lake. Our aim here - to go sand boarding. So we loaded into the sand buggies and off we headed to the sand dunes for one crazy ride. Glad we were strapped in. Some screaming and swearing was heard by all but great fun. We did some sand boarding as well, but unlike Africa where I had to walk back to the top of the dune, the buggies picked us up and took us to the next hill. Great fun, although I don't think the sand boarding was as good as Africa but the ride in the buggy made up for it. I have hopefully added a small video clip from one of my rides. Check out my small tumble right at the end. I got a 10 for the dismount!!!! After our sand adventures we were able to relax a couple of hours by a pool in one of the hotels in town before we made our lunch and headed to Nazca. Half of us did our flight this afternoon, the other half tomorrow. Afterwards we got a taxi into town but not a lot to see really.
