Once we arrived at the hotel and had a wander around the town, which is in an absolutely beautiful setting surrounded by mountains and we even have a waterfall we can see from our bathroom window, we met with Jose to see what extreme adventures we wanted to sign up for. There was a choice of paragliding, horse riding (no thanks, the memory of last time is still fresh in my mind - the after effects anyway), zip lining, white water rafting and canyoning. So I signed up for canyoning.
So yesterday we got our wetsuits and shoes and drove out to the cascades. Fitted with harness and safety gear and shown how to control the rope when abseiling and then down into the canyon and water. First off we had to jump down a small cascade into the water and then we did our first abseil down a waterfall. In total we did 3 abseils and one was like a bit of a zip line where we were in the air and not against the rocks. Some tramping thru the river bed and sliding down rocks and another jump to finish off. It was great fun and not as difficult as I thought. We did have to wait around a bit while they set up lines for the abseiling but we had great fun.
Out of the water and up to the van to get into dry clothes and we were served lunch at a roadside cafe. Had the freshest trout. It was delicious. There was a trout farm there so whether the fish came from there I don't know but some of the best fish we have eaten.
Back for a hot shower and relax. Didn't feel like dinner after late lunch so went and visited the hot springs for a couple of hours. Meant to be very high in minerals and it was lovely. I haven't slept so well in ages.
This morning Nikki and I went back to the hot springs for just over an hour and then came back and splurged on brekky at a lovely cafe next door. Great omelette and fresh bread and fresh pineapple juice. I'm booked in for a massage in 30mins. Total relax day, such a hard life.
I have added the rest of the photos to Misuhalli and I've also added some photos to Quito of the Equator monument. There is a problem with some of the photos from Quilotoa so hopefully will fix them up this afternoon. Hope all is well with everyone.
