Back in Ho Chi Minh City today after a relaxing few days in Phu Quoc. It is quite literally a flying visit as we land at the airport and make our way to the city centre to catch a night bus to Phnom Penh. We've learned to leave some gap between one mode of transport and the next (for those unexpected delays) so we have a 7 hour wait in HCMC before catching the bus at 11pm, this is no trouble as we have a host of jobs to do including getting our laptop fixed, exchanging books and finding the next "Rough Guide" for our trip.
The night bus to Cambodia is definitely the way forward, we boarded at 11pm and were driven to the border which is only a couple of hours away. At the border the bus pulls over and we sleep until 7am when the border crossing opens. We'd handed our passports over at the start of this journey and were shepherded through both Vietnam and Cambodian borders without incident after which we were reunited with our passports with nice new Cambodian visas. Much easier than sending passports to the embassy in London months ahead of the trip!
Our bus journey continued to Phnom Penh, which is another couple of hour's journey from the border crossing. The journey went smoothly enough until we were nearing Phnom Penh at which point Gemma began to violently vomit in the bus, suspected cause being food-poisoning. Fortunately there were some travel sickness bags to hand which the staff on the bus were very happy to throw out of the window when used!
