We had breakfast in a lovely cafe in Glasgow. I ordered the French breakfast with eggs, bacon, mushroom and boudin noir. On arrival of the meal I looked at the strange black crusty item on my plate and suspected that it might be black pudding (being in Scotland) but I thought 'what the hey' may as well be adventurous! It was delicious and the waitress confirmed it was French black pudding.
After breakfast we took off on our road trip to the Western Highlands. After a slight detour to Port Glasgow we turned around and went the right way (oops!) and travelled along the shoreline of Loch Lomond, then through the majesty of the Caledonian mountains. Wow! The scenery was dramatic, rugged and impressive. Although I took some photos, there was no way I could capture the beauty. It was so close and so magnificent.
We arrived at Fort William at the very base of Ben Nevis mountain (the tallest in Britain at 1334m but shorter than Mt Kosciuszko at 2228) along the shore of Loch Linnhe.
It was 2:30 and Anthony was starving. We saw a pub with a nice view and stepped in out of the sprinkling rain and 13 degree temperature. Anthony ordered a drink before discovering that lunch had finished at 2 and they had no other food on sale. Not even a bag of chips! Never mind we did manage a hot ham roll in a cafe found down the cobblestoned road.
We arrived at our luxury bed and breakfast overlooking the loch. Fabulous! Beautiful tea, Scottish shortbread and fudge on arrival. We were first, so we got to pick rooms. We took the front room with the view of course!
