We left Glenroy quite late this morning, after Foxy's birthday celebrations, but our Airbnb host Helen very kindly gave us a lift to the train station (because it's 20 mins walk away!).
We train and tram to Brunswick, a funkier area of Melbourne, which is only 15-20 mins from the centre. Woot! After putting on some laundry, and a quick recovery nap for Foxy, we head out to explore our new neighbourhood.
Sydney Road is one of the main strips in Brunswick, so we head there to have a look around. As it's Sunday, we pop our heads in to a church on the way there, hoping to find evensong. There doesn't seem to be much singing going on, and it looks very high church (Rev is wearing a purple skullcap) so we pop out again fairly swiftly.
First impressions of Sydney Road are that it's a bit scruffy. The beautiful old buildings are looking rather rundown, which is sad, but perhaps that's part of the arty, edgy vibe of the area. There's heaps of street art around, not a chain store to be seen, and we identify plenty of coffee/brunch options for tomorrow.
After a stroll up and down the street, we join the throng in Spotted Mallard for Funk Buddies - a sousaphone big band, which is very slick and popular with the locals!
Dins is an omelette at home (our new hosts are out at the Pride march in St Kilda), and we watch Murray lose in straight sets to Djokovic in the Open final. Sigh.
