Test Run
Our last few days with James were filled with a mixture of relaxation & celebration as his real birthday arrived. We caught up with washing & watched the AFL on tv at his flat - just like a weekend at home! Saturday night we went to the vast Cineplex movie complex at Chinook Mall to see the new Jason Bourne movie. We couldn't sit together so I managed to find one spot in the back row while the boys were really part of the action down the front - very enjoyable! Dinner afterwards was seafood at Red Lobster where we'd been 9 years ago with both children to celebrate James' 21st birthday. How bizarre to be back there but how perfect too. Sunday we met James at the excellent Beano coffee bar nearby & had enormous bowls of coffee while he opened the remaining birthday gifts. He was excited to receive the special indigenous round West Coast Eagles jersey from Sarah & Chris but was absolutely blown away by the 30th anniversary one, hand signed by 22 players thanks to Uncle Al in Perth who went to team training & got the signatures in person. Lunch on 17th Ave with Jared then dinner at the excellent Teatro on Olympic Plaza made for a great birthday of celebration & eating well! Our last morning we went for a long 7km walk down to the Stampede grounds, over the river & up the hill on the other side for a great view of the city over the Saddledome to the distant mountains. Calgary certainly is a lovely city - we've always liked it's organized street & avenue layout, the location near the Rockies, on the river & the "not-too-big" feel of it. Now it almost feels like home with James living there & visiting him more often. It's been wonderful to be able to share his 30th birthday in Canada & hope we'll be back again while he's there. Thanks for everything James - it's been wonderful to share your town, your mountains & your birthday.
