Test Run
Had a wonderful 6 days in Calgary with James, exploring his places, meeting some of his friends, sharing his little flat & enjoying his company so much! We met his mates in the former Source store which is now Less 17 & the Source on 11th Ave where he works now. Calgary has very conveniently numbered it's grid of roads as streets going north-south & avenues going east-west so it's easy to find your way around. We went up the Calgary Tower & all stood on the glass floor then had dinner at the Palomino Bar & Grill where he also works & met a few of his best friends there while eating their great food. Everyone was so polite & friendly & seemed genuinely pleased to meet the Aussie parents. Spent one whole day with Charlotte & John, sister of our friend Andrea, who we hadn't met before but in true Canadian tradition were so generous that they took us on a great drive to The Badlands of Drumheller & the Royal Tyrrell Museum. This is a strange rocky landscape with canyons carved by glaciers centuries ago where dinosaur remains have been found including the local Albertosaurus. They have fossils of my favorite gingko tree which was here in ancient times & still grows today - there's one on our back verandah! They dropped us back at James' football training session so we could watch his Aussie Rules team go through their paces. Locals are surprised that there's a competition with men & women's teams & James is loving playing footy here with the Calgary Kangaroos!
