Test Run
It was so good to see James again as we arrived in Calgary where he met us & drove us to the Hotel Elan, less than a block from his home. The first thing we did after checking in was to give James his surprise birthday present of the quilt I made for him from some of the fabric we bought in Alaska last year when we were with him. His reaction was wonderful & it's such a pleasure to have all the work appreciated so much - he loves it! We had several days here with dinner at Cibo on Saturday night, a day of walking around in the sunshine to see the Peace Bridge across the Bow River & a day trip to the Rockies to walk around Moraine Lake. Let's hope all this walking counteracts all the eating out we're doing. It's been delightful to meet James' friends & especially to see Jared again who he now shares a flat with. The Peace bridge is quite a feature near the city & on a sunny Sunday there were people everywhere walking, running, riding etc around the pathways & lots more rafting down the fast flowing river - what fun! The trip into the mountains was wonderful as always - how lucky these Calgarians are to have the Rockies on their doorstep. We chanced on a parking place at Moraine Lake & joined many others strolling around the lakeshore before picnicking on a log beside the incredible blue water. On the way back we decided to take a canoe out & had an energetic hour paddling the length of the lake. Detoured at Canmore searching for Grassi Lakes but were turned back because there was grizzly bear in the area - Canadian problems!!!!! Back to Calgary just behind a storm that turned the sky black but made for some lovely city views.
