Test Run
After our mountain interlude we returned to the city & the Hotel Elan where we were generously upgraded to another lovely suite with plenty of room. This has to be one of the best hotels we've ever stayed at with many bonus extras like great complimentary breakfast, coffee machine, heated toilet seat!!!!!, rain shower, 6 seat dining table & the best quality HD television I've ever seen. To top it off the color scheme is my colors - black, grey & features of red plus huge glass photo prints decorating the walls - love it. We borrowed James' car & Geoff managed the challenge of city driving a manual car on the opposite side of the road & we had a delightful morning tea with Charlotte & John, sister of our friend Andrea. It was great to see them both again after they took us out for a day here last year. Friday night we went by train to the local CFL football game between the Calgary Stampeders & the BC Lions - our first gridiron experience. Quite an experience it was too - one car park was full of people dressed in team colors with car boots or truck trays open for the pre-game "tailgating" barbecue & beer! We had our traditional crab rolls sitting on a grassy hill before going in - no food or drink allowed, which is why everyone parties in the car park beforehand. The game itself was as I expected - not much action, plenty of stoppages & team changes & lots of external razzmatazz to keep the crowd entertained - not nearly as exciting as AFL or rugby but an experience! We left with about 5 minutes to go only to hear when we were on the train that Calgary had come back from 15 points down to force overtime & go on to win ...aargh......missed the best bit.
