I've entered "The Big Smoke" and my last city in New Zealand. Since my last update I had a 6 hour early morning bus ride from Christchurch to Picton to get a ridicously slow ferry journey from the South Island to Wellington in the North Island. Its not a massive place but its a nice city and a welcome relief from small towns in the middle of knowhere. I didn't do too much here but just relaxed and prepared myself for South America, which was only a week away.
En route to Auckland we stopped off in Taupo, New Zealand's biggest lake. A few people on the bus wanted todo sky dives but because of the horrible British like weather they got cancelled. So instead we went to an Irish pub where we won $160 on the pub quiz. This dissapeared quickly on Jaggabomb's and McDonalds. Next day we went to Rotorua for the Mauri night. It was very good and enjoyable but quite commericalised and stank of sulphur. I ended up staying a few more days than expected due to illness but it was chilled out and cheap so it wasnt the end of the world.
Auckland is big and wet. With very little to do there. Luckily I only did a day there before my flight which was a welcome relief. The North Island is nothing compared with the south and it was nice to be looking forward to South America. New Zealand has been a 32 day party and has been brilliant. I did everything I set out to do and more but I'm ready for cheap and chaotic stage of my trip now. Oh and I know no Spanish. This should be fun.
