We have an 8.30 flight from Memphis to LA so I had asked at Reception yesterday for them to order a taxi for us at 6.30. Breakfast starts in the lobby at 6 am so I was down there just after 6 to get some toast so we have something in our bellies apart from tea!
We were in the lobby before 6.30 and waited and waited, no taxi! So I went to reception and explained that I had asked for one to be ordered and she rang to check if it had been, well obviously not!!! Anyway a few minutes later a taxi turned up and in no time at all we were at the airport.
I had checked in with my Delta app on my iPhone and paid for luggage online so I didn't think it would take too long to check the bags through and get through security. We did weigh the bags before checking them and had to redistribute the weight between the 2 suitcases!
To get from Memphis to Los Angeles we have to fly via Minneapolis-St Paul which takes just under 2 hours then an hour there and on another flight to Los Angeles which was a bit longer but with the time difference we arrived in LA at 1.15 pm.
In St Paul we were quite hungry so I left Rodd sitting with the carry on stuff and went in search of food, I was tired and hungry and couldn't find anything I felt like eating so wandered aimlessly getting quite cranky. I'm not good at waiting in lines and all the places seemed to have long lines so I really just picked the shortest line and ordered a 3 cheese toasted panini - fancy talk for toasted cheese sandwich... it was ordinary, to say the least, and cost $9.95 US so at the exchange rate of the day around $14!!!! Talk about airport $$$$. Anyway it filled a hole and kept me from feeling desperately ill so I tried not to think about it.
Every flight we take we listen to the staff say over and over who is boarding and if you're not in that group please stay seated and leave the gate clear as it will make it so much faster to board everyone..... every flight we see so many stupid people with absolutely no idea or sense cluttering up the boarding area.... makes me really mad!
Anyway......
Once in LA I left Rodd at the carousel while I went to find a payphone to ring the Travelodge and ask for their shuttle to pick us up. My AT&T sim I had in my iPhone had just run out of it's 30 days credit so wasn't working now... almost timed it perfectly! Only took about 10 minutes before the shuttle turned up and very soon we were checked in to a room for the next 6 hours.
Next leg is LA to Brisbane leaving at 11.05 pm.
