We left Queenstown in convoy with Liz and Max as they were heading back to Christchurch too, to end thier trip but slightly earlier than us. Al and i and thought about stopping off at Mount Cook, or Lake Tekapo but there had been some bad weather and snow in those areas so we decided to head straight fo Ch.ch. We had to do a detour anyway because lindis pass, the road we were taking was closed ao we had to head east more than we planned. It was cool though but we did go through every type of weather in this one journey! Rain, snow, sleet, flooding! We stopped over for the night in Timaru as it was pretty much dark. From Timaru to Ch.ch we managed to get to see the Moetaki Boulders which i wanted to see but Al said no as it wasnt on her planned route but now we had no choice! They are whats in the picture above, completely naturally formed round boulders, some look like theyre made out of honeycomb and theres loads of them! They were cool to see..
We arrived in Christchurch about 1pm, we found a campsite on the edge of the city, hooked up then decided to go into town for a mooch. The city is lovely, quite leafy, nice big river running through it! Didnt do much for the rest of the day, apart from an exciting trip to Pak n Save and enroute Max and Liz broke down in the middle of a massive busy road! They were behind us one minute then not the next! We stopped when we could but because it was a 3 lane road we could just turn around and go and find them, and it was getting dark so we carried on to Pak n Save and hoped they were ok! They were ok thier gearbox had failed and had to be towed back to the campsite! Had a BBQ the following night as max and liz were leaving the next dayto drop thier van off and fly to Auckland... when they left me n al went for a drive to the coast, Sumner is a really nice little beachside town, we had a walk and some lunch then drove on, we had planned to stay somewhere overnight but when we got there the campsite was desserted and in the middle of nowhere pretty much so carried on looking for a campsite that was in the rough guide which then we found out didnt exist! So we ended up back in Ch.ch! We stayed in a different campsite though and by the beach, New Brighton Beach which is lovely and huge! The following day we took our beloved Ben back which was a rather sad moment! We have had such an amazing time, New Zealand is cool, whatever the weather! Next stop for me is Australia!
