A short trip into Katherine saw us receive some mobile reception at last and we stocked up on groceries. We left after lunch for Edith Falls, part of Nitmiluk National Park. It’s a gorgeous campground with shady and grassy private sites. Once settled in we headed off on the hot walk over the hill to the top pools. Even though the waterfall wasn’t pouring over as much as it was in 2015, it was a very welcome and beautiful site. We scrambled over the rocks and launched ourselves into the cold, refreshing pools. The boys wasted no time finding rocky outcrops to leap from, Lachie especially was keen to join in this time. They climbed up, around and over the falls and discovered other pools and places to jump from.
That afternoon we enjoyed happy hour watching a seemingly everlasting sunset, and after tea we went for a walk in the dark to see if we could spotlight some crocs (freshies) in the pools. We didn’t get to see any but in the process the boys found some cane toads and relished ‘getting rid of them’, YUCK!!
The next day we left early for the top pools and enjoyed doing much the same thing, swimming, jumping, rock hopping and sun baking. We walked back to camp via the longer track but enjoyed the different scenery. After lunch and a rest we spent time at the bottom pool in the shade on the grass, reading and eating ice-creams, then swimming across the waterhole to the waterfall.
After tea the boys were keen to go cane toad hunting again. I didn’t join them this time. They were proud of their record of 21!
