My Big Adventure
So a pretty relaxed day in some respects today! We started off with another early start but this time we also got a take away breakfast! We got the bus at 5.45am and headed to the national park to get ourselves ready to watch the sunrise. The tour we went with were really great and I would definitely recommend them. So we parked up at the side of the road with a perfect view of Ayers Rock/Uluru and then we waited for the sun to appear. Seeing the rock in different lights was pretty impressive. Starting off as a shadow and progressively becoming more exposed as the sun began to rise! As we waited for the sun, we were served breakfast for me a hot chocolate and cereal! The sunrise appeared right on cue but unfortunately behind the rock and not directly over it but we still managed to get some good views. After seeing the sun set we headed off to see some aboriginal cave paintings on the rock itself and walked to the water hole, learning about some of the tales associated and reflected in the rock on our way. Including the story of Kuniya and Liru which is associated with the rock that looks like a snake head. On our way back to the bus we spotted a couple of grey falcons flying over the summit! We then jumped back in the bus and did a tour of the base of Uluru learning about some of the other stories associated with it. Then at 8.30 (feeling like we had already completed a day) we headed back to the hotel and had our third breakfast!!! (I'd just like to point out I do not mean 3 cooked breakfast I'm talking more like a 3 mini breakfasts that when combined would make one!) When we got back to our room we had a quick turn around and then took the short walk across the resort to the resort centre to look around town square and see some of the Tjunga festival taking place. We had a little walk round and explore of the main site and then bought some supplies from the supermarket before heading back to our hotel seeing what wildlife we could spot on the way! When we got back to the hotel we decided to head to the pool for our first swim of the holiday and although it was a little chilly to begin with, after we had been in the pool for a few minutes it didn't seem so bad. From our swim we headed back to our room for a late lunch and a chill before heading out for our sounds of silence dinner and sunset viewing. So we arrived at our platform from our bus and were greeted once again with champagne and canapés and stood with Uluru to one side and Kata Tjuta to the other. So we sat and chatted to some other people at our dinner some of who we had meet on previous tours and waited for the sun to set. As the sun went down we were treated to tradition aboriginal dancing. Once the sun had set we headed down to our table and ate our dinner in the middle of the desert to the sound of a didgeridoo. We sampled crocodile Caesar salad, kangaroo steaks and barramundi to name a few. After our dinner, all the lights were turned off and we had a star gazing talk where we found out about all the different stars in the Southern Hemisphere and because there was no moon tonight we were lucky enough to see the Australian cross, the Milky Way and 2 other galaxies within this - so exciting. After our talk we got our yummy desserts and then continued to chat to the people on our table before heading back to the hotel for bed and to get ready for our next early rise tomorrow.
