My Big Adventure
So another early start with a quick get up and then a short walk to the station to get the sky bus to the airport. When we got to the airport we checked in, grabbed some breakfast and then waited for our flight to board. Thankfully everything was running on time so we jumped on our plane and landed in Alice Springs about 2 and a half hours later. From here we had a quick game of cards in the terminal while we waited for our connecting flight to Ayers Rock/Uluru! At Alice Springs we were offered to change our seats so we got a window view which was pretty amazing although this also being next to the emergency exit which I didn't find quite so amazing! But I did love the view of the rock as we came in to land. So the journey from Alice Springs to Uluru was just under an hour and from here we got a coach to the 'town' of Yulara and our resort and hotel for the next few nights. Now we are staying at the Outback Pioneer Hotel and it feels like luxury to us. Mainly because it's about 3 times the size of the rooms we have been staying in and you can actually walk around it without having to slither along the side of the bed!! So after we settled in to the room we headed out to explore our new local area and then headed to our first tour - the field of lights tour. This consisted of us being picked up just before sunset and being taken to a viewing platform where we could see the rock and then as the sun went down over 50000 bulbs lit up in front of Ayers Rock. From our viewing platform we got to see the remains of the sunset and view the lights starting to emerge around Uluru while drinking champagne and eating canapés! How posh are we!! From here we headed down to the see the actual lights. Unfortunately the photos don't do it justice but the whole of the area was lit by changing colourful lights and add to that the fact that when you look up you got the full view of the Milky Way, you can only imagine quite how magical this evening was. After we made our way through the lights we headed back to the bus and our hotel. When we got back we headed to the bar where we grabbed a bite to eat and sat and watched the local entertainment a man singing modern songs with his guitar and didgeridoo (ok I haven't really described it very well but he was really good). After this we headed back to the room so we could get ready for another early morning and a sunrise tour tomorrow.
