So we took a trip to Guatemala City's zoo the other day but the strangest attraction was the fact that kids on school trips there were walking around tied to a rope. They looked strangely like slaves but I guess it's a sound way to make sure none of the children get lost.
Surprisingly the zoo itself was pretty good; I had geared myself up to see animal maltreatment, especially after all the animals at the market but the enclosures were decently sized and it was a nice day trip.
We headed to a nice restaurant for lunch and spent the afternoon lounging in hammocks before heading out to the hostel owners bar which backs onto a gorgeous theatre and plays live cumbia music. Lots of fun but not a late one as we are headed to Antigua the next day.
