Semuc Champey, Lanquin is a gorgeous site consisting of a series of limestones pools basked in clear turquoise waters. A day trip there entailed a visit to the Semuc caves into which we were led by candlelight and climbed various crags and waterfall ridden rocks. The rock formations by candlelight were fascinating but I did have a twinge of regret that we'd chosen to do the tour with such a big group as I laboriously waited for 30 people to negotiate each rock. That said when it came to jumping off the 12 metre tall bridge into the waters below it was pretty fun to have so many of us. Next we hiked up a trail in the blistering heat only to arrive at the top, sweating like pigs and rewarded with a beautiful view of the crystal blue water pools amongst a valley of lush greenery. After a few photos, including a beautiful sweaty group shot, we headed back down to swim in the waters and explore for ourselves. Stand still long enough and the tiny silver fish that occupy the pools will even come and nibble at your feet. After a tiring day we head back to the hostel, ravenously demolished our food and lasted about 10 minutes at the bar before mutually deciding on an early night.
