In Puerto Viejo we were hit by the beginning of the rainy season which ended up reflecting both our moods and our impression of the place; everything seemed a little dull. However, lots of travellers I'd met previously, many from Casa de Olas, all reconvened here and it was nice to see everyone again.
Rocking J's was our chosen hostel with a selection of tents, hammocks and dorms and prices to match every travellers budget. I hung my own hammock for just $4 a night and mainly ate ramen noodles aiming to scrimp and save after a somewhat expensive activity packed stay in Monteverde. The hostel had a cool vibe with art everywhere and a well equipped kitchen but it was a little too big and impersonal for my liking. I felt that Puerto Viejo was more about spending time with a good group of people than soaking up great culture as the town had little to offer and with such awful weather even lounging at the beach had no appeal.
