Unable to make the trip from San Juan to Montezuma in one day (border crossings always take longer than you'd imagine), we stopped over in Puntarenas for the night. Sleep was much appreciated, especially as we had our own private air conned room, and when we awoke in the morning we were all fresh and revived, ready to catch the ferry. The calm morning soon turned hectic however when I got lost on Puntarenas' identical looking streets on the way back from buying breakfast and nipping to the pharmacy and we ended up making the ferry by a hairs breadth. Forever now known as "the pharmacy incident".
Once in Montzuma we checked into cabanas right on the beach, shared a few beers and admired Costa Rica's sheer beauty and abundance of lush greenery.
We didn't stay in Montezuma long but it was enough time to explore the aquamarine blue beaches and trek to a nearby waterfall. The hike there was lots of fun across both rocky stream and forest trail and it felt good to be out and about on the fresh air and get some proper exercise rather than sitting on yet more buses. The waterfall was breathtaking; a humungous drop of at least 20 meters with three pools above it each with their own mini waterfall. Though the largest waterfall was far too rocky and dangerous to jump from we were assured that the next one up, still a ten metre drop, was perfectly safe. Gulping our stomach churning adrenaline we all jumped it and spent the rest of the afternoon swinging off the nearby rope swing into the water. Besides our fear of that 10 metre drop will soon be put to shame at our next stop, Monteverde, home to a 143 metre bungee jump.
