We arrived in Hue on the overnight and bus and were thankful to have people at our stop offering us their guest houses. It was cold, rainy and we were very tired. It was good just to have someone pick us up and take us to the guest house.
To be honest there was not much to do in Hue. We could have probably have done it in one day rather than two. It rained pretty much the whole time and lot of the restaurants were closed due to the Chinese New Year. The first day we rented bicycles. I regretted this decision soon after. These roads were not as quiet as I had pictured. Lauren made the idea sound a lot more fun than it was to be! The motorcyclists drive crazy. There are no rules! The worst part was having to drive on the wrong side of the road. That put me all wrong! I was pedalling like a maniac praying no one would hit me.
In Hue we went to see the Citadel and the Imperial City which was pretty interesting. There was not much of it left but you could tell it must have been very impressive back in the day. We also took a boat trip on the Perfume River. We got to see lots of people on their houseboats and it was quite nice.
In the evenings we had some well earned DVD nights. It was quite strange. It seemed a while since we had last not had anything to do in the evening.
For me the highlight of Hue was Lac Thien, a deaf mute restaurant. It was one of the few places open but that was not the only reason we ate there 3 times in 2 days. Its food was really good and the owners were lovely. We had the best spring rolls there, they were delicious! They let people write all over there walls so people from all over the world had signed it. We did too. Lets hope its a while before they paint over it!
