We flew out of the airport in Chennai and only 3 and a half hours later we were in Singapore. As both me and Lauren have previously spent a lot of time in Singapore it was a welcome relief. We had long list of things we wanted to do over the next 3days and a longer one of things we needed to buy! India and Singapore are competely polar opposite countries and I must admit arriving in Singapore, even after no sleep, was a pleasant experience. For a start everything was clean! Our bags were coming round the luggage belt immediately after arriving. When we joined the taxi queue we were immediately helped with the bags into the taxi and taken to our specified location. No one asked us for a tip anywhere. It was certainly nice to be back.
We stayed at my Uncle Jim and Aunt Laura's house for our time in Singapore. It was definitely nice to be staying in a home for a change. The morning we arrived we were given a nice big breakfast along with some champagne. The perfect way to start a day! We immediately set about getting through our list of list of things to do. We spent a LOT of time at the shops. Most of our clothes from India were literally falling apart so needed replacing. I had forgot how many shops there were in Singapore. After a couple of hours we were walking around like zombies. No sleep the previos night had obviously taken its toll. However, somehow we managed to power through and didn't end up in bed till 1 in the morning. I really don't know how that happened. We really did plan to be in bed by 4! We ended up going to Clarke Quay for some dinner, a nice Mexican along with a big Strawberry frozen Margharita. After dinner we suddenly found ourselves with a bit more energy so made our way to one of the bars at Clarke Quay. Since me and Lauren had last been in Singapore a number of new bars had been opened. They were all themed bars, including The Highlander, the scottish bar, The clinic where you sat in wheelchairs and could drink cocktails out of drip bags. Slightly strange. Needless to say we ended up spending a good few hours in the Highlander.
Over the course of the next few days we endulged in a lot more shopping, a meal or two in Hawker Centres, many a MRT journey and a journey out to Lauren's old university stop. We managed another meal out at the Brewerx where Lauren met up with an old uni friend. I forgot to mention the fact that we made the absolute most of being able to eat meat again. Seriously... I make the worst vegetarian ever! I managed Chicken chimichangas, a huge cheese burger, chicken satay...mmm...any opportunity I could get. It was also a nice change to be able to wear vest tops again. We spent so much time in India being covered up it was a shock to see all the young girls in mini skirts and little strappy tops!
Anyway, we really enjoyed being back in Singapore even though we were on the go non stop. We replenished our dwindling supplies of toiletries, bought a couple of "Christmas" presents for ourselves and got our clothes cleaned thanks to Connie, Jim and Laura's maid. I dont think our clothes were even that clean before we left for India. It was such a shame having to put them into our backpacks knowing they were only going to get all crumpled again! As always Jim and Laura made us very welcome and we had a great time in Singapore. We all headed out for nice meal before me and Lauren got our overnight train to Kuala Lumpur.
