Hoi An was a very pretty little place. I instantly liked it there. There were lots of pretty little streets filled with restaurants, tailors and cute little handicraft shops. Hoi An is well known for its tailoring so we decided to get some clothes made. Prices appear to have gone up a little since Lauren was last here so we got a couple of tops each and a dress. We went in to choose what we wanted, what material we wanted and what it should look like and had our measurements taken.
Down by the river there was racing going on. It was fun to watch. The local men were all in little dinghys pedalling themselves as fast as they could. It must have been for the new year celebrations. There was lots of people out cheering them on. We found a really nice bakery, there seem to a lot of them in Vietnam. It did amazing chocolate cheesecake. So good we had to go back the very next day for something else. That evening we went out for dinner then found a fairground on the other side of the river. We tried our luck in a couple of games but only came away with one prize each. I won a carton of chocolate milk and Lauren a can of Birds Nest White Fungus?? We have yet to discover what that actually is. Neither of us had the guts to try it.
The next day we rented bicycles (it was a lot more quiet here) and cycled out to the beach. The sun actually came out a bit and it was a really nice bike ride. The beach itself was quite nice but it was so windy. The waves were really big. After a few minutes there we got back on our bikes and made our way back to the town. For lunch we tried the local delicasy Cao Lua. It was noodles with pork and crispy bits on top. You squeeze a lemon over the top then add as much chilli as you want. It was really nice. I was actually rather dissapointed Hoi An is the only place you can get it. Its something to do with the noodles. That particualar type of noodles are only available in Hoi An. We spent the afternoon browsing the handicraft shops. They were filled with lovely things which I have no room in my rucksack for. I did buy a painting though as I'm sure it will look lovely in my flat one day (not that I even have one yet). By late afternoon it was time to pick up our new clothes. It was really exciting to see how they turned out. Thankfully they were perfect. As long as I don't gain or lose any weight they are the perfect fit. That evening we were on the bus to Nha Trang.
