We were so desperate to get to the Thai islands that we travelled 26 hours in order to do so. From Siem Reap we took a taxi to the border, we then crossed the border and got on a bus to Bangkok. As soon as we arrived we booked ourselves onto the night bus down to the ferry port. From the ferry port we took the morning boat accross to Koh Tao. It was worth it! We were exhausted but got to spend the whole day sleeping on the beach. It is so beautiful in Koh Tao. For me I found it is the perfect mix of peace and quiet while on the beach then a good nightlife at night. On the beach we had our own space and it was so chilled out, yet at night we could go for a few drinks and there were always a good crowd of people about.
A lot of people go to Koh Tao for the diving. We couldn't wait to go out for a couple of dives. This time I felt so much more confident going down and was really able to enjoy it. We got to see lots and on the second dive we did some swim throughs which we have never done before. This was where we swam through little holes in caves. It was pretty scary but really good fun. I'm so glad we got to do more diving.
During the day we tended to stay on the beach, it was so relaxing. By night we went out to some of the bars, mainly the Lotus Bar then on to the Fishbowl Bar once it closed. At the Fishbowl Bar you had the chance to try your luck at jumping a skipping rope that was on fire, limbo dancing under fire or diving through a hoop of fire. I opted for the third. Once you have had a couple of buckets it honestly seems like a great idea. I didn't burn muyself, however, there always seemed to be a lot of bandaged up people wandering around. I have to mention while in Koh Tao we met the grandson of Mr Tunnocks, of Tunnocks teacakes, wafers etc, how exciting!
I discovered while in Koh Tao to always be careful of your flip flops. While sitting at one of the beach bars not paying attention a sudden wave swept away one of my shoes. Luckilly I noticed and managed to retrieve it. On numerous other occasions they were being burried in the sand and I would have to did around to find them again. Honestly, we met a couple of guys who had gone home without their flip flops every night and each morning had to buy a new pair.
I really enjoyed my time in Koh Tao. It would have been so easy to get stuck there for a while longer but we still had a few more islands to hop so needed to move on.
