It was nice to reach the humidity of Palenque. It was very small but from it we were able to visit some nice places. Our first day we had booked a trip out to some waterfalls. We see some really nice waterfalls. Our guide and driver acted like 12 year old boys and giggled constantly and took photos of us on their phones but the waterfalls were nice. The first one we went to was huge. We got to walk behin it but still managed to get soaked from the spray. Next we got taken to a wobbly bridge where there was a nice view spot. After lunch we got taken to more waterfalls which were very picturesque. We got to take a swim in the water there although it was pretty cold.
As the guide book warned of an increased rate in theft at the waterfalls we only took what we needed and left the rest in our room believing it to be safe. When we returned later that night some money had been taken from Rhonas bag which had been left in the room. We were unaware there was another key to our room. Rhona confronted the hotel staff but we could prove nothing and of course no one owned up to it. After my bag being pinched in Mexico City its another stark reminder of how careful we need to be here.
The following day we went to the Palenque ruins which are situated in the jungle. It was such a hot day and as we were walking and climbing loads we were really sweaty and disgusting! The ruins were pretty interesting and still a lot of them remaining. We got the night bus to Tulum that evening.
