We spent 2 days in Sans Cristobal. It was a town right up in the mountains so it was a bit cooler. In the town there were some really nice wee shops selling nice gifts and lots of jewellery. As we were there at the weekend there was a really big market on. There were lots of really nice things on sale, handbags, jewellery, scarves.... this proved dangereous for me and Rhona! We managed to spend a good bit of time in that market.
One day we took a walk up the many steps to Iglesia de san Cristobal, a cute little church on the top of a huge hill. There were great views accross the town from there. We also took a walk to a local food market. It was pretty smelly but quite a sight. In Sans Cristobal we also had our very first salsa lesson. A man came to our hostel to give a free lesson. He showed us the basic moves. Only the 3 of us joined in which was pretty embarassing as everyone else in the hostel stuck around to watch. Despite that I still would love to do some more salsa sometime! It was good fun.
San Cristobal de las Casas was a nice place but we did find it quite cold in the evenings. Luckilly our hostel had a bonfire each night which made it a bit more bearable.
