Seems like a weird concept, having a weekend, seeing that we're on holiday. However because we're learning a language Monday to Friday, we're definitely hanging for the weekend. Though Saturday was a write off with study.
So forgetting that we decided to blow the budget and take a trip up in to the Andes. Following Lindsay's first love we went up to the ski slopes, though a little keen as the snow doesn't fall for a couple of months. Even still we ventured up to see if it's worth heading back for. A bit over an hour in the mini bus later we made it up the windy road (we think the guide said 69 switchbacks in total?) full of completely loco "Sunday" cyclists, to the 3000m above sea level ski resort of Valle Nevado.
With only an hour on offer our options were have lunch and/or a wine at the restaurant, or hike up for a better view. Hmm, we've come all this way, we should do the hike. 100m up what we swear was near a on vertical hill, the lungs were and burning and we thought we were having a heart attack! We pushed through it, no doubt it's worth it. According to the GPS, we walked only 3km in total and only 200m vertically. It felt like much more than that. At 3000m, is the oxygen depleted that much?
So was the view worth it? Well yes! Hopefully the photos do it justice, though we feel they lack a bit. Funny to think that if we'd come in winter we'd have had no idea how rocky it is under foot.

Jane So..."following Lindsay's first love" is that you Fergus? you went to see her second love - the ski slopes? Is that right? Glad you went for the trip and I guess you'll be eating rations this week. Good choice to go for the walk and hope you're both feeling healthy now.
Derry I checked out the trip on Google maps - no wonder you were approaching car sickness. Also noticed that you were about half way to Argentina. Spectacular scenery - although I had always thought that trees would grow in the Andes. That's one hazard you won't have to worry about in the ski season.
