Kampot
Tue 17.12.19
Another early start (6.45am) to take tuk tuks to the tourist agency to catch the minibus to the French colonial town of Kampot. Finding the tourist office was interesting and we had to wait around so the minibus didn’t actually leave until 8.45am. We arrived the Bamboo Bungalows in Kampot at about 11.30am. It is a calm riverside oasis on the edge of town. Our bungalow was on stilts so we had a steep climb up....no drinking tonight! We had a quick bite to eat and then boarded our tuk tuk and headed to La Plantation a pepper plantation. Kampot pepper is world renown and rated as the best by the top chefs. The drive took us along red dusty roads (thankfully he stopped to buy us face masks) passing lots of fields of sugar cane, more rice fields and Brahma cattle. The tour was interesting finding out about all the different peppers they grow. On our way back we were dropped in town by the Durian roundabout so that we could explore. We took a stroll by the night market which was setting up and stopped at Simple Things a veggie cafe/restaurant we’d read about. We decided on a snack, when it arrived it wasn’t “snack“ size it was a massive amount of food. Humous, babaganoush, salsa and fresh warm pitta - yummy. Had a further wander round town before taking a tuk tuk back to our bungalow. Relaxed on the deck chatting and catching up on the news.
