FARFRUMWURKEN
When we got up this morning in Grants Pass, it was snowing
to beat the storm. We were glad that we made the extra effort to get through the mountains to reach Grants on Thursday night or we really could have been in trouble on Friday
morning.
Special thanks to my amazing landlord, Rob Siebert. Rob drove Deb and I down to
Bellingham to pickup the U-Haul truck so that we could leave our car in the
driveway. Not only did Rob drive us to Bellingham but he helped me load some of the most heavy items – thanks Rob you are truly amazing.
Anyway, we checked the weather sites, viewed the road cameras, checked with the front desk regarding the terrain down the road and thought that we should really stay the day in Grants Pass. When the hotel manager told me 6 inches by 4:00 p.m., we decided to roll the dice and head out to Reno despite the snow covered parking lot.
While it was slow going for the first hour, we crested the
hill, slid down (just a little) the back side and then out came the sun. We ended up making the right bet and got lucky. The minute-by-minute change in the weather was consistent for most of the morning until about noon and then the sun came out and we made some great time.
Not sure who thought up this antique road trip but this truck is killing me in fuel. Overall it
drives ok, but it revs like hell going up these mountain passes. I had Deb give me a summary up to our arrival in Susanville, CA and we've used $345.24 in regular gas to travel 837 miles or $0.413 cents for every mile traveled – what the hell.
So after two days on the road, we’ve traveled 827 miles on our Tennessee adventure in two (2) days – really not bad considering that we had to load 150+ boxes and some heavy antique furniture. Anyway, we’re here at the Peppermill Casino and Spa in Reno.
Our room looks like it’s from somewhere in Tuscany with the ornate furniture and large oil paintings in the room.
We went down to the largest buffet I’ve every seen in my life. After we rolled out of there
we lost a few bucks playing some cards so we thought we’d head up to the room
for our trip to Las Vegas tomorrow. All is proceeding as plan, we’re just hoping for a huge tailwind tomorrow to help us with our mileage.

Joe Absolutely CANNOT wait for you guys to get here! Be careful on the way! And yes, UHaul trucks are the devil. Only had the misfortune of driving a large two or three times, thankfully. Not high on my list of enjoyable things. Keli is madly rearranging, by the way. LOL
