Easter Sunday - Gold Coast - Surfers Paradise
Easter without our children and my parents ....strange feeling. The Easter Bunny found us though...thanks to Judy !
Someone said that the Gold Coast was like Durban on steroids , what a good description. Miles of swimming beaches with life guards bordered by blocks and blocks of high rise buildings, huge shopping centres and restaurants and the very special feature of Gold Coast Meter Maids dressed in seriously short gold hotpants and high heels...who fill up your meter to make sure you don't get a parking ticket !
Spending the Easter Weekend here with the Geldenhuys family is such fun and so very special. Doesn't feel as if we have lost any years ...we just picked up where we left off. Awesome to find that they are a family that is just as crazy as ours, who laugh lots and have such an amazing sense of humour and so clearly enjoy each others company. We've enjoyed the foaming waves ,warm clean water and long walks on the beach together.
Last night we celebrated Judy's Birthday at Dracula's ...a supper cabaret show. Quite something...especially the ghost train ride into the venue. Later your ride into the venue is screened for all to see...all the screams and flinching! Too funny !
Unfortunately the rain caught us today on our cruise of the waterways around Surfers Paradise. Here one sees the houses and yachts of the rich and famous. There is lots of money in this country !
Can't quite see myself skiing and wakeboarding on waterways that are a breeding ground for bullsharks and are the habitat of stingrays and crocodiles. Not very friendly waters ...and they are murky brown...not too inviting. Luckily it is still around 27 C even when it is raining.
On the way back to Melbourne, before flying out to the Gold Coast, we stopped at the Bells Beach Pro and were lucky enough to watch Bianca Buitendag, who started surfing in the Strand, compete in her heat. Great talent ...unfortunately she was pipped at the post by the favourite Australian, who is hoping for a third win in a row.
