Today we went for a day trip to Stonehenge and Bath. We arrived at the Victoria Coach Station at 8am and left just after 8.30am. Luckily we had packed an umbrella because it looked like we were in for a day of on, off showers. Stonehenge was impressive and we learnt a lot more about the history of the area. As you get closer to Stonehenge you see lots of large mounds of soil dotted across the farm land. Apparently each mound has a body buried underneath it. They seem extremely large to have only one body buried in them. It was about an hours drive from Stonehenge to Bath. Bath is a beautiful town. All of the buildings have been build out of limestone, which gives it a very 'old' feel about it. We walked past the original Sally Lunn shop. I took some photos, but we didn't go inside. I remember having these a lot as a child with the white or pink icing, sprinkled with coconut on top. I was always positive I was eating Sally's lung though, as I didn't realise it was pronounced Lunn. We also visited the Roman Baths and the chapel. Roughly the bottom metre of the baths is still what was originally built there. The rest was rebuilt at a later date. Will have to check the exact details on that in our guide book we bought. The chapel is incredible. The detail that was put into those old churches was amazing. We took lots of photos inside. In between visiting the baths and the church we went and had a traditional pub lunch at the Huntsman. Then sundaes for dessert. Our trip on the way back was quite delayed and the traffic once we arrived in London was at a stand still a lot of the time. I was getting a bit worried about how late we were as we were meant to be meeting Laille, Jan and Fiona and the Jamie Oliver Italian restaurant at Canary Wharf. We rushed there when we got off the coach. It turned out that I had got the times mixed up and that we didn't actually have to be there until 8.30, not 8.00 like I had thought. The food was very gourmet and so we struggled to find meals that we would like, since we have reasonably simple taste. We all enjoyed our meals though. You can look into the kitchen while the chefs are cooking, as well as see all the fresh produce, wines etcs in different areas of the restaurant. The meals actually weren't too badly priced considering it's a Jamie Oliver restaurant. When we got home I had a shower, washed my hair and got into bed. All ready for another busy day tomorrow xx
