I've been wanting to purchase a raclette table grill since we had dinner at Danika's house. Heidi thought I may find one at the Blokker in Hoevelaken so we went with them when they went grocery shopping this morning. They return all their beer bottles to the supermarket to recycle. You receive €3.80 for a crate if it still has all of the glass bottles inside. You can also recycle single bottles, including fizzy drink bottles. There is a special area where this is done just outside of the supermarket. Then you take your receipt inside to collect the money. I was curious to look around the supermarket and find it really interesting looking at all of the different items. It's similar to NZ supermarkets in some ways and different in others. With the supermarket trolleys you either have to put a coin in the handle of the trolley or attach your car key. This is meant to be used as a measure to ensure that you return the trolley once you have finished with it. After we put the groceries in the car and returned the trolley we walked down the road to Blokker. Blokker is similar to a small Warehouse or Briscoes. There was roughly six different grills to choose from. I prefer the look of the oval one to the rectangular shaped ones, so choose one of those. It can be used with six people. Heidi said that they often use there one at Christmas to have a hot meal inside. I'm going to ship it back to NZ, as it is too large to go in my suitcase. We drove back home and had some lunch before heading out again. Heidi and Frans were going to visit Frans mum in her home in Amersfoort. They dropped us in town and said they would meet us in an hour and a half. We did a lot of window shopping, but did find a book shop that had a section of English books. We bought three books between us. Paul will read his two a lot faster than I will read mine, but I wanted one for the plane ride home. I'm reading the second book in the series now so purchased the third book. I also found a shop that sold the wooden windmill cookie cutters so bought some of those too. I've been looking everywhere for those since Laille showed me her one. We met up with Heidi and Frans at 3.15pm by the old city wall. They suggested that we do a half hour canal ride through the Amersfoort canals so we went and purchased tickets from a small office. The boat ride only went for half an hour and there were a couple of showers, but we really enjoyed it. It's always good to do something a bit different and to see the city from the water. We also learnt a bit about the history of the city. Parts of the old town wall still stand and it's always intriguing finding out how old the different buildings are, as we don't really have many that old in NZ. After the canal trip we all went out for dinner at a Greek Restaurant in a really nice square. I've really taken a liking to Greek food since I've been in NZ. Although a lot of it is similar to what we eat anyway. I ordered the Greek tzatziki with bread for an entree, the salmon and vegetables for my main and then ice cream with toffee, chocolate sauce and cream for dessert. The dessert had a special name, but I can't remember what it was. Heidi and Frans refused to let us pay again so we've decided we will just leave the money for dinner in a card when we leave. We are going to go back into Amersfoort before we leave to buy them a present to say thank you for having us to stay too. After dinner while we were driving home we saw four hot air balloons. They looked really pretty floating into the sunset. Apparently there is a hot air balloon show in a nearby town later this week so we might go and watch that, if the weather stays fine.
