Today we had our free day in Venice. We caught a boat into the centre of Venice in the morning with the rest of our group. First we walked through St Marcus Square to our glass blowing demonstration. The guy made a horse within minutes. We were told that it takes twenty years for someone to become qualified and that they often start learning from as young as ten years old. To become a 'master' it took another thirty years on top of that. After the glass blowing demonstration we had a walking tour around Venice with a French lady. She had a good sense of humour, which made the tour a lot more enjoyable. The tour went for an hour and a half. Paul was craving McDonalds so we walked through the maze of narrow streets until we found it. It was packed inside so we ended up having to eat out on the street. There was no where to sit. At 2.45pm we met up with the rest of the group for our gondala ride. Ross bought a couple of bottles of Bellini to drink on the gondala. Bellini is an alcoholic peach drink. It was yummy. A lot better than champagne. We meandered through the canals and drank Bellini in the sunshine. After the gondala ride a lot of us decided we wanted to go back to camp rather than wait around until 7pm so we went to find a water ferry. Luke and I were craving gelato before we left Italy so went and found a little place on the waterfront before we hoped on the boat. I'm going to miss the Italian gelato. The Italians do better gelato than they do pizza and pasta. Personally I think Amici back at home still does a better Italian meal than anything I've had while I've been over here. The ferry was about a half hour ride before we arrived back at camp. I went and had a nap and Paul went to happy hour at the bar. I met up with them at the bar when I woke up and paid to use the wifi. Tonight there was a themed beach party. They had sumo wrestling and a wet t-shirt competition (surprise, surprise). I still can't drink so went and hung out with everyone and watched the sumo wrestling. Our group won both the girls and guys competition. Tomorrow we're off to Austria. I really need to go through my blog and add more detail about everything I've been learning. Sorry for anyone that is following this. Most days it's just a rough outline of what happened that I write while I'm the bus. Will fill you all in properly when I get home. Missing my pets!! xx
