Anni took me away as a delayed birthday to Dartmoor for a few days. We struck it lucky and seemed to have landed the only fine weekend so far of 2009 and so managed to get in some good walks and even a run.
More importantly was the local pub. Or more specifically the Rugglestone Inn in Widecombe-in-the-moor. Oh yes, tiny, olde pub that has turned itself around with some gourmet food. Top of the menu if you ever get to go must be the IceCream Brulee. It was bloody fantastic. Local vanilla ice cream, locally made (divine!) drizzled with caramalised sugar in the brulee type style. There are few foods I would kill for, but this one came very very close, which was unfortunate as Anni and I had ordered just one between us to share!!!! Little is Anni aware of the devious thoughts that flitted across my mind with in between every mouthful of this heaven sent desert...however I can assume the depths of my depravity and plotting, were only surpassed by Anni's determination to ensure that she actually got half of the said desert, which regretably she did!
Climbing out of Widecombe-on-the-moor the next day (still not talking due to said regret - see above) we spent the day up on two moors way. There was still sizeable patches of snow in the valleys and up on top, so it was not long before the snow ball fights commenced and my brulee regret was appeased...although I did come off worse because Anni plays snowball fights with a handicap like golf! What is about snow that reduces us to five year olds in a heart beat?
Tors, moors, snow, bogs, rocks and mud - very very good fun! Oh, and pretty passable Devonshire Cream teas as well, made it all in all a pretty perfect weekend and a nice winter break.
Back to work... with thoughts of Ice Cream Brulee!
