Dropped-off washing to the front desk to be done while we're out finishing our Venice exploration. Luckily the buses are air conditioned given how sticky it is. Unfortunately an elderly man decided to expire half way in and we all had to get off and catch another bus. Crammed into this one like sardines we managed to get to Venice eventually and headed straight to the queue to get into St Marco Basillica. Not too long a wait and then..........wowzza! Can't adequately describe how magnificient it is inside. Fantastic mosaics covered every surface, including the floors. Free to get in but you had to pay to see the Treasury and the Golden Altar Screen - only a couple of euros each and certainly worth it. No photos inside but everyone was taking video and photos, most quite openly, especially the eastern europeans. Ian got most of the interior shots from the outside by taking them through the open windows and doors!...and points to Sally for her spy camera work.
After a couple of hours we headed for some lunch at the same spot we'd dined the night before, and watched the illegal 'knock-off' merchants scattering when the Carbineri came by. Decided to head back over to Murano to get a couple of pieces of glass and then returned to Venice for a trip back along the Grande Canal in the water-bus. We'd brought the 12-hour tourist ticket again and used that for all of the bus/ferry trip and the return bus trip too - great value.
Pretty tired by the time we got back and the washing wasn't quite dry. Managed to swap a couple of warm beers we'd carried from Florence for some coldish ones from the hotel fridge, ate some biscuits and then a sound night's sleep.
