Off north now to Austria. As we go into the Italian Alps and lake district the countryside changes rapidly. Houses are bigger and looked after, painted in bright colours. The whole place is more open and clean, and every available piece of land that's not built on is in either grapes, apples or maize - all the way to the very top of the mountian in some places. Travelled into the Brenner Pass and the picturesque, 'chocolate-box' scenery of the Tirol. Bright green pastures, chalets and little hillside churches everywhere. The place just oozes character - we fall in love with it straight away.
Entering into Innsbruck we stop at the tourist info centre and they arranged a hotel for us right next to the old-town pedestrian area. Hotel dates back to early 1800's but is clean, 'cheap' and handy.
Dinner at the hotel was real food for a change - Weiner Schnitzel/Cordon Bleu with salad that made Sally re-live her childhood.
Getting late so a quick trip into the city centre - place was buzzing with hundreds of people dinning al fresco at a myriad of cafes.
