Day 8 27/05/2013 Diamantina NP to Boulia
What a beautiful morning. The flies had not yet woken up and we enjoyed a cooked breakfast watching the many birds visiting the waterhole, including a pair of pelicans who were successfully fishing for their breakfast. After packing up we visited another waterhole at Hunter's Gorge, also a camp spot. There was another couple camping there. They said that it hadn't been windy, but they had also been defeated by the flies and were leaving today, instead of staying for a second night. Diamantina NP has many birds on its semi-permanent waterholes, and fishing and canoeing are also popular pastimes here.
Our journey onwards to Boulia was trouble-free; still wet in places and just the usual cattle, emu and roos on the road........oh, and a couple of bustard birds. We saw no other vehicles for most of the way. We stopped just before hitting the bitumen to get rid of as much mud on the car and camper as we could.
Tonight's camping will be very different. We are in the Boulia Caravan Park and it is quite full! We can hear classical music from one caravan and country music from another! The TV is on in yet another! Still....it was great to do some laundry and to have a long, hot shower. Dave even fixed the Anderson plug.....the guy in the local hardware store was very helpful. Dave was also able to give the vehicle a bit of a wash at the truck wash just outside of town. We had dinner in the pub.....it was great!

Margaret Beautiful mornings and chirping birds are preferable to mud and slippery roads to be sure. So pleased the weather has improved and that you'll be able to make up time. Enjoy!
