When a text came through at half eight this morning from Joan in the next room, it was dutifully ignored for at least another hour before we chose to respond. Our response was to send the kids in to jump on them. They were already up of course, patiently waiting for us late comers. We headed out together for a late brekky which turned out to be early lunch and then wandered down the street. We had lined up this morning for cheap tickets to Circue du Soleil Mystere and had to pick them up at Treasure Island casino.
Let me back up a step to explain our amazement at Circus Circus. Knowing that it was an old Casino and at the old end of the strip we were unsure what to expect but wow, we were totally amazed. Just head up one floor, we were told, go along until you see the lifts for skyyrise tower and head to your floor. Okay, so at 1 am in the morning we head up 1 floor and are greeted with what can only be described as a footpath lined with shops which went for quite a way before sight of any other lifts. To our left is also the roller coasters and rides and people are everywhere!! Imagine my surprise when we have to head through a poker machine area to get to the lifts, kids and all! What an amazing place, hard to remember that this is all contained inside a casino. It is truly like a little town in there, fun park and all!
So back to the present, we head to Treasure Island which looks deceivingly close, just up the strip a bit, but which is actually quite a walk, especially in the heat!!! Phew, it is hot here!! Treasure island is cool with big boats out the front (unfortunately covered a bit due to construction) and yes, it's own malls and shops too. We head to the ticket booth and are stopped by some showgirls handing out free chances to win a prize. In we go, suspecting some marketing trap to find out that yep, timeshare style offers are being pushed. Mum and Wess both win a two day Carribean cruise, as does everyone else coming in with their tickets!! While there, our sales lady mentions the saving we could make on another show we wanted to see if we attend a sales meeting. The meeting is two hours and we will receive our 6 tickets for the price we were going to pay for 2. Wess, mum and I decide to go to the meeting next morning, we figure two hours is worth it to get the 4 free tickets, about $240 dollars worth. We aren't interested in the time share thingy but while we go Joan will take the girls swimming so no harm done.
We pick up our Mystere tickets and slowly begin the trek home, grab some dinner and head back for the show.
I could tell you all about the storyline behind this Cirque du Soleil Mystere performance but after watching the show and reading the program I still don't get it. It had something to do with something but all I saw was an amazing show with incredible acrobatics, the actual storyline was just not important. The lighting was clever, there was smoke, actors wandered throughout the audience, the stage changed many times and the music and sound effects were all being performed live. It was quite mystical and magical and the acrobatics were fantastic. The girls particularly enjoyed the trampoline and tumbling sections.
Yes, the show was expensive but totally worth it. A great intro to night life at Vegas. The walk home, the lights, the sounds, welcome to Vegas!!
