Emmett's Adventures
Alright Folks,
This postcard is from a little while ago. We have been so busy we have not had the chance to update the site fully.
Since our last post card we have been to see the Ballestas Island (also known as the "Poor Man's Galapagos") in Paracas. We saw loads of different birds, sea lions, and some penguins. We had to wear rain coats as the birds were busy trying to bomb us from above. Luckily neither of us got bombed.
From there we stoped off to go sandboarding in a tiny little town in the middle of a desert. We were taken up the huge dunes on dune buggies, the feeling was very similar to a roller-coster ride. The sandboarding was great fun. I tried to go down standing up and ended up with a face full of sand and a sore back. Sharlene was a little more sensible and went down on her front. Unfortunately there are no pics of me wipping out on the dunes - only Sharlene looking cool.
From there we went to Nazca and saw loads of interesting things. The lines are really amazing and the flight was not as bumpy as we expected. Many ideas float around as to how the lines appeared from Aliens to the Nazca people making running tracks! The flight lasted about 45 minutes and we saw quite a bit.
After Nazca we headed for Chivay, passing through a high point at 4,960m. For those of you that aren't impressed by this height, it is three times higher than my highest sky dive!! This is where the altitude sickness hit most of us. Luckily we had stocked up on native cures. We went on to Colca Cayon which is one of the deepest canyons in the world. We were meant to see loads of Condors but being mating season they were abit busy and we only saw one.
Anyway, this has been more of a letter then a postcard so i will leave it here. It was a busy few days with a lot of time spent on the truck. But enjoyable all the same. Our next postacrd will be about The Inca Trail and Machu Picchu. Hope you are all in good health and looking forward to the end of silly season. Thanks for all your messages, keep them coming as they are great.
Until next time, Em & S.
