Emmett's Adventures
Hola amigos!
Punta Sal was our first camping experience in South America, and where better to start than next to the Pacific Ocean where, as you can see, the sunsets are amazing.
After a quick warning not to go swimming at night from Kirsty (our Tour Leader) we all settled in to what we hoped would be a few relaxing days on the beach. After a feast of pig on the spit, washed down with a rather intoxicating Sangria, we attempted more salsa lessons. Unfortunately not everybody listened to Kirsty's guidance and a few of us spent the night searching for a drunken english tart. She did end up staggering back at 6am, still pissed, no apology, and unable to comprehend why we'd spent our time looking for her!
We've seen more ruins than you could poke a stick at, but wait, there's more! Joking aside, it is amazing how advanced the Inca's and others of their time seemed. Chan Chan held up to 60,000 people with 8 palaces with very impressive architecture and an incredible understanding of acoustics.
The country is filled with what looks like sand dunes but many are in fact ruins that have been covered in sand (and rubbish). The Pyramid of the Sun and Moon look less like pyramids and more like building sites.
The overwhelming stench of rubbish has tainted our view of Peru and Lima seems like the most dangerous city if you were to believe what the guide books say. Drivers licences seem to be obtained from the back of cereal packets, either that or they learn to drive on the dodgems.
From here we are off to Pisco (might have a Pisco sour or ten) then on to Nazca. Again, thanks for the messages, they mean a lot, keep them coming.
Until next time, Em & S.
