Well 5 hours uphill - strangely I’m feeling positive and not spooked by the height just yet. We’ve made it to the second elephant location and home for the next two nights. It’s being run by a great team who are working to free all the overworked and abused elephants in the city. The elephants have either come from labouring jobs or tourism jobs chained for hours at a time and no real freedom.
Orientation for this part of the project is across another rickety bridge - Bea (pronounced Beer) says the bridge is safe as motorbikes cross it all the time. I’d say that’ll be a step too far for me, but I get across whilst everyone else is crossing it at the same time. This trip is doing wonders for breaking new boundaries for me, I’m hoping it’s gonna stick by the time I’m home.
Tonight we’re doing basket weaving and tomorrow morning the trek through the jungle - 15 mins uphill but no steep drops so I’m going to attempt it. Jade was worried I might back out due to the fear of heights but what have I got to lose?
Life here is simple, it makes you realise how excessive we all are back home. The homestay where we’re staying is one of the ones in need of money, everything’s made of timber - well put together. I wonder what they’re getting us to help out with?
