Well we've had a very productive last few days. On Wednesday we went on cruise up the river to the Cadbury's factory! The boat was lovely (free tea and coffee woo) with the funniest guide ever (noticed this is a bit of a theme in Australia, the guides don't tend to take themselves, or the trip, too seriously). He was waffling on about all sorts of rubbish from backpacker's hostels to industrial spies, you name it he talked about it! But did get to see loads of nice scenery and some aboriginal caves and stuff. The factory was cool too. Had to wear a beautiful hair net (sorry couldn't take any pictures because no cameras were allowed for security reasons, well we could be spies from Nestle after all!) and got to see all round the factory. Wasn't quite Willy Wonka's and there were no Umper Lumpas (boo!) but we got loads of free samples and discount chocolate so was a good day.
On Thursday we did our serious sightseeing and went to Port Arthur. Port Arthur was a prison colony set up for British convicts in the 1800's who were transported from Britain and Ireland. It was really good actually, apart from being freezing (i mean 20 degrees come on!). It was really interesting looking at the prison cells and punishment rooms (which we darent' go in because it was pitch black and we were weeds). Some of the buildings had been burnt down by bush fires but there was a lot still there and loads of old houses done out a bit like beamish (Gaz's favourite place!). The average age of visitors was about eighty but we didn't mind as got to have a nice cup of tea in the cafe.
So thats it for Tasmania (and Australia for the time being). Its being very nice staying with Robert and family. They've been very generous and it was lovely of them to let us stay for the week, so now we're all rested and relaxed off to New Zealand tomorrow, sky diving and bungy jumping here we come.
