On our second day in Dunedin we drove out to Otago an area famous for its nature and wildlife. We spent most of the day at a penguin sanctuary and it was awesome! The place was based on a private beach on some farmers land and there were groups of yellow-eyed penguins (apparently the rarest in the world) which lived there naturally. The sanctuary had built a serious of hides and tunnels and pathways to try and allow you to get as close as possible to the wildlife...

So Saturday we had decided to give white water rafting a go (well why not indeed). It was such a laugh and the weather amd the scenery was absolutely gorgeous. We got all kitted up in some rather fetching gear (I think not), Kat seemed to have got the short straw and ended up with a life jacket that was about 10 sizes too big, good job she didn't actually get into any real trouble or she would have come straight out. We left Wanaka this morning for Queenstown. After another lovely scenic drive through winding mountain roads we had a quick look around the town centre. It seems lovely set by a lake (again) surrounded by mountains (again) and I must say after days of driving through wilderness its feels good to be back in a proper town with shops and bars and mobile phone signal! We sat by lake and ate our picnic which was lovingly prepared by Kat (we're trying some cost cut...

It took us about 4 hours to reach Wanaka. New Zealand is a lot bigger than you think and there is literally nothing once you've left one town til the next not even a radio station or phone reception, but again the West Coast had some amazing scenery. We were up early doors on Tuesday morning and caught a flight from Wellington to Christchurch. Good old Qantas even got a complementry muffin during our 45 min flight. Once we arrived at Christchurch we picked up our little baby Nissan Pulsar (wit woo ha ha) from the car rental place.
