This week I have been back at school. I don't have much exciting to report. At the begining of the week they were just doing tests so all I did was mark. My sticker system isnt working perfectly because they have been peeling the stickers off from other children's names and putting them by their own! They are also getting a bit cheekier as the novelty of me has worn off, so I have found them quite hard work when I am left alone with them as I was for most of the lessons on Thurs and Fri.
The excitement of this week was that I spent 3 days with a Swazi family. I stayed in a homestead with one of the other girls I am with, with a lady called Phumsile and 2 of her 3 children. The house was quite big by Swazi standards, with a living room, kitchen, bathroom and 3 bedrooms. Rosie and I were in with her daughter, sharing a single matress on the floor, which was interesting, but at least we had a matress!! They had a car, and electricity, but no running water, a concept I couldn't quite understand. They had taps, and a sink and a toilet, but no water in them so there was lots of washing in buckets of water. The food was great 2 of the 3 nights, the other night it was perfectly nice, just not my ideal meal as it was just maize (corn on the cob), which I don't like. Anyway I managed to munch my way through it and I had already had the best mango of my life just before (they are much better fresh than imported!). Phumsile was a very interesting lady, who is very active in the community. She organises home visits for the sick and elderly, and generally helps the poor to help themself by encouraging them to find a trade, ie. making teddy bears, or just to grow their own food so they don't go hungry. I had a really great time and am very glad I did it, it was good to see how a real Swazi family actually lives.

Philip George Hi Emma Sorry for not responding to your blogs lately but both Sheila & I have been fascinated by your accounts; here we are in the final throws of comic relief so your experiences make them quiet surreal. Still keep up the good works; we can’t wait to hear of your exploits on your return? Love P&S
Nan & Gdad We are just home from our week in Lloret del Mar on the Costa Brava in Spain with Val and Frank. It was a good week though very tiring as we travelled through the night on the coach to get there and back - we're getting a bit old for this! The weather was mostly good and we visited some lovely places. Philip and Sheila picked us up on our return and we took them out to dinner as a thank you (and because we were very hungry) and because it is their Silver Wedding anniversary on Tuesday. It was great to see your latest blog, above, when we got home - another fascinating one. We are now ready for bed and hope you have a wonderful time in Cape Town and, as always, a safe journey. Much love from Nan & Gdadxxx
Emma I'm glad you all had a nice time in Spain and managed to get a bit of sunshine. If you could order some for England for my return I would be very grateful! Congratulations Philip and Sheila on your wedding anniversary! and I look forward to seeing you all soon. I fly to Cape Town tomorrow and this time next week I will be home!
Nan & Gdad Can't wait to see you when you get home. Love Nan & Gdad xxx
