Bangkok was...an experience lets just say!
So when we arrived after our long coach journey there were taxis all outside the coach harassing you to use them. We'd found a gorgeous little hostel online which we booked which was somewhere near to where Christie and Gary stopped when they went so we knew it would be a good location! So we got off the coach, showed the taxi man where we wanted to go and he said it was off the map! So said 1,000 baht! I thought it seemed a lot but we didn't know any better so paid it. After speaking to Christie about it after she said we should have only paid 250 baht so we got well and truly ripped off!!
The first hostel was lovely! It was called Chan Cha LaLa 99 hostel. It was so clean and the lady was so friendly! We all shared one room with bunk beds which was a little crowded but guess it was better than sharing with randomers! We stayed there for 2 nights and then moved to another hostel Martha had recommended called 'D&D inn' and us girls shared a room and lee had his own room. Again rooms were clean and spacious so nothing to complain about really! :-)
So we had 4 nights in Bangkok- where we stayed on the Koh San road was mental! People everywhere! Never seen anywhere so busy in all my life! And it was so hot and humid- just no air! Bangkok is meant to be the most polluted place in the world and I could now see why!
One of the days we decided to go to a market and it was so good! I love markets anyway (love a good bargain!) but this one was amazing! So huge! I got a couple of phone cases and that was about it! It was just so hot walking around in the heat though! There was also a market on the koh San road we stayed on and I treated myself to a fake mulberry purse! Looks just like the real thing so thought why not! I think I paid the equivalent of £9 for it so not too bad! :-)
So we all decided we wanted to see some cultural things such as temples so as decided to one of the days go and have a wonder around some of the temples. There was a little one opposite the Koh San road and there was the tiniest little puppy running around outside! I literally fell in love with him! The first temple we went to was pretty cool- it's really interesting seeing other peoples religions and cultures. I mean I'm not religious or anything but I can imagine it's quite a nice feeling having something to worship and comfort you in bad times! Some of the statues in these temples are just beautiful! Lot and lots of photos taken! :-) anyway we carried on walking around the different temples (the lady from the first hostel have us a map of where to go) they all looked within waking distance but they were however quite a walk! Just as we were walking to the main temple it started absolutely POURING down! We'd had our fair share of rain as we came in rainy season (so typical we didn't know when we booked it!). We literally had to wait for half an hour until the rain stopped. It worked out well actually as we didn't have as long to wait around for our time slot for the temple. So the Grand Palace temple was so beautiful! Absolutely spectacular! I can't believe how strict they are with what people are allowed to wear in there though- us girls had nothing revealing on but mart and Lauren had to hire a shirt as you're not allowed to show to much body! Lol. Again I took hundreds of photos (I think I get that from dad! Lol) and i really did think it was beautiful. Although somehow I don't think that's going to be my lasting memory of visiting there- I'd had a bad tummy the whole time in Thailand practically and yep I had one that day of all days. So wondering around this lovely quiet temple I then realised I suddenly needed the toilet lol. Lauren came with me and I can honestly say I don't know how one of us didn't have an accident! Lol. I was literally about to have an accident and Lauren was laughing so much she almost wet herself hahaha! Not funny at the time but funny now looking back! Everywhere we turned to find a toilet they'd blocked the entrances off so needless to say it was quite a long winded process trying to find a toilet! Once I did I felt better but not much so we left not long after as I felt terrible.
So while we were there lee's cousin was also there (he had lived in Thailand on and off for afew years) so we met up with him a couple of the nights. We went to a few strange places whilst in lees cousins company lets just say! There were ladyboys everywhere- then don't seem to warm towards real girls I think they must see us as a threat! Lol!
We also experienced our very first tuck tuck! They were absolutely everywhere and we thought we just had to go on one to experience it! It was so tiny with us 4 squished in with a couple lee had met diving too- it was a good laugh but at the same time quite scary how fast he was going! And how small it was it felt like we were about to fall out when driving around corners!! Lol!
Another experience we wont be forgetting in a while is being pulled over in a taxi! Lee got a taxi with a couple he had met doing his diving course so us girls got a taxi separate. In Thailand its actually the law to have your ID on you at all times and usually this means your passport. The police are so corrupt over here it's ridiculous! Anyway there we were in a taxi minding our own business and at the side of the road police were pulling over random cars and searching the people in there. And yep you've guessed it ours got pulled over! (God knows why we hardly look like criminals! Lol) anyway straight away we all thought s*** we don't have our passports on us! There were 2 police men who shone torches at us and in our bags and asked us lots of questions about where we were going and when we were leaving. Luckily Martie was very good talking to them and the taxi man helped us out by the looks of it too and they just let us be on our way. Was such a scary experience though I honestly thought they were going to demand loads of money off us or something!
The best part of Bangkok for me was going to the sky bar- this is a famous bar which they filmed "The hangover" at! It was somewhere I really wanted to say id been as I love the hangover films and Martha had said she went and said it was amazing! I can't remember how many floors up we were but it was just incredible! Everyone really dresses up there- we all had lovely dresses on and made an effort. Lee and his cousin however were dressed quite casual (wearing shorts) and they wernt allowed up to the top. I'd have been gutted! We still carried on anyway as us girls were all excited. So the views were absolutely spectacular- just breathtaking! It was so cool to think as well this is where the hangover was filmed! I knew it was going to be expensive so I'd saved some money aside to treat myself to a cocktail. I had a cocktail which was specially made for the hangover film! Id no idea what was in it but thought I'd give it a go anyway! It was about the equivalent of £15 for one cocktail so I think around 1,000 baht! It was so worth it though- sitting there with a cocktail in one hand over looking the amazing views of the city lit up at night and chatting away to the girls- I couldn't have felt happier at that moment! :-) it was a perfect end to our Bangkok experience!
Our last night in Bangkok we just stayed on the koh San road- lee met his cousin so us girls just went for a few drinks. We also ate street food- definitely the best thing I've had since being here! I liked Bangkok but was ready to leave! It was all a little bit mental for me! I really wanted to try an insect but with the way my tummy had been with normal food I didn't really think that was a good idea! Lol!
Thailand overall has been such a fantastic experience! I've loved everything about this place (minus the dodgy tummy!). My favourite place was koh Phagnan and koh Tao. Least favourite was probably Bangkok! I think it's just the way round we did it too- if Bangkok had been first and we'd have done the relaxing places last maybe I would have felt differently but having gone from luxury and relaxing to a mental jam packed place was mental!
I'm so excited to get to Australia now!! And actually can't wait to see Christie!
Untill I'm in Oz....byeeee xxxx
