17th-18th feb- Fraser Island!

We got picked up at 7.45am for the first day of our trip. Luckily we were able to leave our bags in the hostel as we were stopping there the night we get back from Fraser Island too.

We were on a coach which I didn't think we would be- I actually didn't know how the trip would be but guess I just didn't imagine it being on a coach. So the coach took us to the ferry (the coach also stayed on the ferry) and we headed over to Fraser Island :-D the sun was shining and it looked beautiful from the distance! :-)

When we got there we first went to a beautiful lake called lake Mckenzie where we were able to go for a swim- the water was crystal clear and was fresh water rather then sea water- it was just beautiful! Then we went to a place called central station which is where we had a look around the rainforest etc. After that was lunch which was at the accommodation we were staying for for the night. Lunch was lovely it was a hot dinner buffet!! And finally we went to lake wabby which again we swam in. It was a nightmare to get to though- lots of walking involved through what seemed like a rainforest type area- the man warned us of the MASSIVE flies over here but at the time I didn't think much of it as I thought well I can't be scared of a fly! Lol anyway as Jamie and I were walking through the rainforest suddenly one landed on him but they make a really loud buzzing noise which as you can imagine would scare anyone to death walking through a quiet walkway. So there we were the last in the group (miles behind everyone else) walking through this rainforest with no shoes (at the time we thought it was better but it wasn't!) being attacked by flies! Once Jamie got them so did I and we were both running around like a pair of loons! If anyone had seen us I think they would have wet themselves! Jamie was running away from a fly so fast at one point that he stubbed his toe on a concrete step- straight away I was in hysterics until I saw how much his toe was bleeding! We literally couldn't wait to get in this lake! When we got to the top there was a beautiful view point with miles and miles of white sands everywhere. Then we walked down to the lake. It was nice but not sure it was worth all the flies! Lol
On the night we went back to Eurong resort where we were staying and had dinner and a few drinks in the bar afterwards. On the way back to our room we saw the most gigantic frog I've ever seen! It was huge! Luckily there were no creepy crawlies in our room!

The next day we were up early again and back on the road by 8am. The coach was all over the place- even though it was one designed for the sand with its 4x4 wheels, it was soooo bumpy you actually flew out of your chair!! So first we had the option of going in a little plane above Fraser Island. It was only $70 each so we thought why not! There were 6 of us in the plane in total. I felt a little scared as I don't feel great in little planes but felt more excited to see over the beautiful island. We went over the sea and saw sting rays, Jamie saw a shark and dolphin too! Then we flew over the rainforest and saw some more lakes one which looked like a butterfly and one in the shape of a boomerang! It was incredible! Such a fantastic experience very glad we did it!
After that we went to see a shipwreck which was really cool. Then we headed to the red canyon, then Indian head which was another walk with amazing viewpoints- we even saw turtles and a shark in the sea! After that we visited the 'champagne pools' which were called that because of how the waves crashed over the rocks and the water fell into the area creating pools. It was lovely :) finally we went to Eli creek which was a river which you could go in and float down (It was only shallow but you had to push yourself down it). It was pretty cool :) we even saw dingos on the way back to our accommodation! Once we got the bags we were on our way back to the ferry to head back to rainbow beach. I am so glad we got to experience Fraser Island! It was a lot bigger than I thought but was great learning all about the history of the island. It's crazy but I always forget how young Australia is as a county- it's only around 300 years old!
