We stopped at the Geothermal pools at Hells Gate, Rotorua and they smelt so bad worse than the town, rotten eggs nice. We treated ourselves to a mub bath, sulphur spa and a massage, where one of my rings was my finger went a brown colour. Then we had a long drive to the south of the coromandel peninsular to Waihi beach for the night and the most expensive shed i have ever stayed in but it was getting late and that was all we could find.
On our way north we stpped at Karangahake gorge which was beautiful but not as nice as the gorges in westen australia. We had time to go for a nice walk along the river then through a long old train tunnel i was glad to have a head light which i bought for the camping. It got so cold in the middle of the tunnel we could see our beath. There were lots of old ruined mining sights which were cool to see. Our next stop was hot water beach but the tide was in so we didn't get to play in the sand, when the tide is out if you dig a hole it fills with hot water. We got to have a nice few hours on the beach working on the tan and a bit of a well earned rest. On leaving the beach the car (fix or repair daily FORD ) broke on us the gear stick wouldn't move so we had to wait for some one to come and fix it. They appeared within the hour which was good and after a few minutes found the problem, the stick had dropped down, simple which was a good thing. Our next stop for the day was cathedral cove it was a long walk to the beach and well worth it, it was a little too busy for my liking but we didn't have long there, because we wanted to get north of Auckland for the night. We managed to make it all the was to Whangarei for the night and got there at 10.30 but that ment only a short drive the next day to the bay of islands for a beach day.
We stayed in Paihia for the night and people were right saying youneed to go out on a boat to see all the islands, but it was expensive and it was nice to just chill out for the day. We managed to make it up to Cape reinga the next day and it was mostly gravel road all the way. Its was so nice and the little lighthouse was sweet. They are doing alot of work so maybe one day it will be a proper road up there i was glad it was a rental car with full insurance. The next quick stop was 90 mile beach then it was off to Auckland to a motel near the airport to catch our flight back to Perth the next day. I have to say i think New zealand is the nicest place i have been to on my travels, it reminded me of home and i will definatelly go back.
